Mường Hoa Valley, Sapa
Sapa is the place to be if you want the true rural, Vietnamese experience. Stroll through the rice terraces and hike with the locals, or simply take in the sights while sipping on a cup of coconut coffee... or happy water.

Sapa is such a beautiful place, although we would recommend getting here between March and May to see the peach blossoms and bright green beauty of the rice terraces. Sadly, we arrived slightly too late when the terraces were starting to turn brown, but we were still so stunned by how beautiful everything was.
The air here is much cooler compared to the rest of Vietnam (Dalat is an exception) which is a nice relief from the tropical heat. As well as its stunning landscapes, Sapa is a cultural tapestry, home to various ethnic minority groups including the Hmong, Red Dao, and Tay tribes —whose colorful traditional dress and ancient customs remain the heartbeat of the region.
If you come to Sapa, we guarantee you'll be made aware of the traditional cloth making and dyeing practices as the local women parade around town selling various traditional items and souvenirs, and can be quite pushy with their sales tactics.
Things to Do:
Trek the Muong Hoa Valley: Follow narrow dirt paths through world-famous rice terraces and bamboo forests, passing through villages like Lao Chai and Ta Van to see local life up close.
Conquer Fansipan Peak: Known as the "Roof of Indochina," you can reach the 3,143m summit via a world-record-breaking cable car, or instead opt for a challenging multi-day hike.
Stay in a Local Homestay: For the most authentic experience, spend a night in a mountain village house. You’ll share a home-cooked meal (and likely some "happy water") with a local family.
Visit the Love and Silver Waterfalls: Witness the power of nature at Thac Bac (Silver Waterfall), which cascades over 200 meters down the mountainside, or hike to the serene Love Waterfall tucked deep in the forest.
Explore Cat Cat Village: Just a short walk from Sapa town, this Hmong village features traditional wooden houses, giant bamboo waterwheels, and a beautiful central waterfall.
